MEMOIRS OF A STATISTICIAN. ATTEMPT OF A BIOGRAPHICAL ESE (PART II)
Bogdan Bogdanov
Abstract: In the second part of his memoirs the author tells about an emblematic period of his professional career in state statistics - from 1991 to 2007. This is the period when the state statistics change the direction of its development, adapting to the conditions of the new democratic values and transition to a market economy.
This sequel can also be taken as an account of the past time, when reforms in accordance with and in line with the development of statistical surveys in the countries of the European Union began in the NSI. Thus, a correct comparability was gradually achieved between the data from the statistical surveys carried out by the Bulgarian statistics and the national statistics of the countries in the European Union.
The period under consideration covers the activity of the NSI, when chairmen of the institution are Prof. Zahari Karamfilov and Assoc. Prof. Alexander Hadjiiski. Conclusions are made about the work of state statistics and its development on the eve of Bulgaria's accession to the European Union in 2007.
The essay is dedicated to 140 years since the creation of Bulgarian state statistics.
