PROF. DANO BALEVSKI

Abstract: Professor Dano Balevski was born on May 26, 1925 in the town of Ugarchin. He received his higher education at the Moscow Institute of Economics and Statistics with a degree in Statistics, graduating with honors. In 1952 he joined Directorate General of Statistics as head of department and since then has associated his life and professional career with the statistical institution. Prof. Balevski has been successively Vice-Chairman of CSO, Chairman of CSO, Chairman of the Committee on the Unified Social Information System, First Deputy Chairman of the Social Information Committee and again First Deputy Chairman of CSO until his retirement.
Prof. Balevski makes efforts for development and deepening of the statistical activity, expands the scope of the statistical researches, as well as of the publishing activity. Prof. Balevski takes an active part in international cooperation in the field of statistics. For nearly 40 years he lectured on foreign trade statistics and economic statistics at the Karl Marx Institute of Economics. The scientific research of Prof. D. Balevski is supplemented by a number of publications.
The name and activity of Prof. Dano Balevski leave a long lasting mark in the circles of Bulgarian statisticians. He died in Sofia on March 11, 1997.
