Резюме: The author of the biographical essay recounts memories of Prof. Dano Balevski, who has been one of the emblematic leaders of Bulgarian state statistics for more than 20 years. He has consistently held senior positions in state statistics: since 1959 he has been deputy-chairman; in the period from 1971 to 1976 and in the period from 1977 to 1984 he was chairman; ended his career again as vice president from 1984 to 1991, when he retired.

The emphasis is on several significant meetings of the author with Prof. Balevski in the period 1981 - 1991. It briefly tells about the lessons learned from this remarkable man who left a lasting mark in the development of state statistics in Bulgaria. What he did is a good example and message for those who have accepted the profession of statistics as their life destiny.
